Red Shoes

I have a pair of gorgeous red shoes
that, when worn, kick off the blues,
and I've kept them good for so many years,
not wanting them worn, such were my fears
it was such a shame for they rarely saw light,
but now they are out, to my delight.
Life is so short to deny simple pleasure,
these little luxuries are like buried treasure.
Once afraid, and I don’t know why,
wearing the shoes myself I denied
When I asked myself 'why not?'
no reasonable or decent answer I got
So, out went the box and on went the shoes,
As I walk this life kicking off the blues
